Mersey Fire and Safety was established in 2000 by Dave Fanning, drawing on 35 years of experience working for the Merseyside Fire Brigade. This included both responsibility for the Brigade's Industrial Training Unit and 15 years at Toxteth Fire Station, reaching the rank of Station Commander.

A graduate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers, Dave Fanning is retained as fire consultant for the Adidas Group, carrying out fire risk assessments on all Adidas and Reebok outlets and offices in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
